Vegetables 101
As our first Garden School Activity Kit, this is an excellent first stop for those new to gardening. Learn about the stages of gardening including bed prep, choosing seeds, soil health, water and how plants grow. We’ll work together to plant your very first vegetable garden!
Pollinator Protectors
Do you want to help save the bees? This exciting Garden School Activity Kit teaches you all about bees and our other pollinator friends. Turn your home garden into a Pollinator Paradise, create your very own Bee Hotel and build on the foundations of gardening from Lesson One by adding flowers to the mix!

Wildlife Habitat
This Garden School Lesson teaches participants all about wildlife, their habitats and how to be a good neighbor to our wildlife friends. We will work together to make sure your backyard garden is a healthy and safe habitat for all the animal, insect and wildlife friends who may wander through. Better yet, we’ll help your backyard garden become a certified “Wildlife Friendly Habitat” with the Canadian Wildlife Federation!

Homegrown Tea
Not only is your garden abundant with tasty food, it also gives you delicious drinks? This Garden School Lesson will teach you about some amazing teas, right in your backyard! We will sample a few varieties of homegrown tea at our very own Backyard Tea Party and learn about the medicinal properties of plants.

All About Worms
Do worms make you say “ick”? Or do you find their squiggly, slimy bodies cool? Get to know this misunderstood creature, up close and personal! Set up your very own vermicomposting (using worms to compost) system and learn all about our friendly neighbor The Worm!
Campfire Cooking
There’s nothing like the taste of a homegrown meal cooked over a fire! Join us for an campfire cooking lesson using our portable, damage-free firepit. Ingredients are from our garden (and yours too!) as well as other local producers in Ottawa. This is a unique and memorable local food experience!

Fabulous Fungi
Did you know the mushroom you see growing is actually just a small part of a much larger (sometimes kilometers-long!) network of fungi. AND fungi are more closely related to HUMANS than they are plants! Come learn about the amazing Fungi Kingdom, learn how to I.D. a few common mushroom species, share a special “mushroom tea” and explore the importance of fungi in nature!

Seed Saving
Coming This Autumn! Learn the ultimate skills of self-sufficiency and food independence by saving your own seed! There’s no need to purchase seeds from big supply stores when you know how to do it yourself! Learn the basics of open pollinated vs hybrid seeds, how to isolate varieties to prevent cross pollination and more! We will clean and process the seeds together and create a seed bank for you to use next year!
